Train on Dhaka-Jashore section likely to start operation by mid-Nov


 The much-anticipated Dhaka-Jashore train service, running via the Padma Bridge, is expected to start operations by mid-November, with initial trips planned for November 15, 2024. This new rail link, a major project of Bangladesh Railway, is set to reduce travel time between Dhaka and Jashore significantly—from more than eight hours to just 3.5 hours—by cutting the distance by approximately 212 km.


The project includes a newly constructed 172-km broad-gauge track linking Dhaka with Jashore. This line will not only benefit Dhaka and Jashore but also improve connectivity with key regions, such as Khulna, Rajbari, Kushtia, and Benapole, as well as the major seaports of Chattogram and Mongla. Initially, ten trains will operate on the new line, though it has the capacity to support 24 trains once fully operational.


This ambitious project, supported largely through a loan from the Export-Import Bank of China, has faced some challenges, including delays and security issues, such as cable theft affecting the signaling system.
